Cyprian Azinta, a first-class graduate of Enugu state university of science and technology, majored in Chemical Engineering, has a deep insight on enhancing studies and harnessing reading culture among students with this piece.
"To make the most out of your studies, it is important that you understand the way your brain operates. Understanding the way your brain operates involves knowing the best conditions under which your brain thrives. This is what i call the optimum Time, Optimum place, and Optimum style...
1. OPTIMUM TIME
As a student, there are times i feel at my best. At these times my body performs at it's peak when thinking or studying. So i usually take advantage of these times by studying as much as i can, since my whole system is open for learning. You need to know when your own body performs at it's peak. That period is your optimum time. Some people call it premium time or top moment. Operating at these peak periods translate to enhanced productivity in learning. Do you study beat at night, morning or evenings? If you want to increase your effectiveness and get your brain to work at its utmost, find out and maximize your optimum time.
2. OPTIMUM PLACE
I particularly feel most relaxed studying alone in a room or place where no one can see me. I observed a huge difference in my ability to assimilate things faster between when i had a roommate and when i lived alone. When i am alone studying in an organized place or room, my brain seems to run on auto-pilot. Solutions to difficulty questions have a way of coming to me when am alone. So, in other to focus on my thoughts, i choose to stay alone. Students should develop the capacity for loneness. Learn to stay alone, to make the most out of your studies. Where is your optimum place? This place i am talking about tends to challenge your creative mind. It is a place of high mental activity which in turn reflects on your performance in class, tests, examinations and competitions.
3. OPTIMUM PERSONS
For some students, it is a mentor, for others, a classmate or a school friend. Others say it is their teachers or lectures- those they look up to. There are persons whose presence inspire your thinking. This person or people are your optimum person(s). Whenever you are around them, your mind seems to take on a life of it's own. This happens usually through intellectual interactions with them. At times, through social and religions discussions. Better still, it may just be the person's previous display of intellectual prowess, because people may not necessarily moivate you by their words but by their actions. A glimpse from them or perhaps even a thought is enough to spur your mind to become a tenacious student.
4. OPTIMUM STYLE
Some students learn better when they listen. Some thers when they see, others, when personally involved in the learning process. We all learn through different styles but learn more with our primary style. Your optimum style is the learning disposition that best suits your body, mind and spirit to a super student".
